The Barrie Baycats are off to a perfect 4-0 start to the 2012 Intercounty Baseball League season after an 8-5 road win over the Burlington Twins in one of two games played in the IBL on Thursday night.

Baycats starter Shaun Slemko picked up the win on the mound, giving up eight hits and four runs with one walk and five strikeouts over six innings of work. After Jake Hines pitched the seventh, Scott Kelly closed out the game and earned the save after surrendering just one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.

Jordan Lundberg and Kyle DeGrace both had big nights at the plate for the Baycats, each going 3-for-5 with a run scored while DeGrace added an RBI. Matt Richardson and Matt Logan both had a pair of hits and an RBI while Logan also came in to score twice for the visitors. Jon Waltenbury rounded out the attack with two hits and a run scored.

Unlike their opponents, the hometown Twins (1-3) weren't quite as efficient on the mound, trotting out seven pitchers, including Alex Gale who took the loss. Gale allowed two hits and two runs scored with one walk during the second inning. To make matters worse for the home side, the Twins suffered from seven errors on the night.

Will Nicholson had a three hit night in the loss, with two RBI. Branson Joseph and Darryl Pui each had a hit and an RBI while Adam Cholewka notched a pair of hits and a run scored.

Kitchener Panthers 14; Toronto Maple Leafs 5

In Kitchener, the Panthers scored six runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth en route to a 14-5 dismantling of the Toronto Maple Leafs at Jack Couch Park, sending the reeling Leafs to their third loss of the young season.

The Panthers pounded out 15 hits off four Toronto pitchers and took advantage of five Toronto errors to improve to 2-0 while the Leafs slipped to just 1-3.

Adam Echlin started for the Panthers and earned the win, giving up six hits with two earned runs and three strikeouts over six innings pitched.

Ben Kangas singled and homered in the win, finishing with three runs scored and two RBI. Mat Taube had a four hit night, scoring once and driving in a run while Mike Glinka had a pair of hits and drove in three with a run scored. Pete Molloy and Mike Winter each had a hit with two RBI and a combined three runs scored. Brian Burton also singled twice with an RBI and a run scored while Jeff Pietraszko picked up an RBI double and a run scored, as everyone in the Kitchener lineup contributed offensively.

After winning their season opener versus the Ottawa Fat Cats, the Leafs (1-3) have lost their last three games, including both games they've played on the road so far this year.

Starter Adam Garner was shelled for nine hits and eight runs (four earned) with one walk and three strikeouts in the opening three innings before being relieved by Matt Tosoni.

Will Richards hit his first home run as a Maple Leaf and added a single while finishing the night with two RBI and a run scored. Glenn Jackson had three hits for the Leafs in the loss, with an RBI and two runs scored. Rob Gillis tripled and scored while Dan Gibbons had a hit and drove in a run.
