Battle Creek Crunch News Release

On September 27, 2005, the Battle Creek Crunch announced their first head coach of the indoor football league team that begins their inaugural season in 2006. Bob Kubiak will be on the sidelines to make all the play calls for the Crunch, as they battle the teams in the Great Lakes Indoor Football League (GLIFL).

"We're definitely excited to have a coach like Bob aboard as our first Head Coach of the Battle Creek Crunch," said Mike Powell, Owner and General Manager of the Crunch. "Bob's accomplishments on the field are well-noted, and he will be an excellent leader for our team."

Kubiak is currently the Assistant Head Coach and the Quarterback's Coach at Olivet College, where he returns for his second tenure with the school's coaching staff. He also spent four years as the Offensive Coordinator from 1988 to 1992. Between his two tenures with the college, he was the Head Coach at Kalamazoo Central High School for 11 years. Kubiak led the Maroon Giants to the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference (Big 8 West) championship and a playoff appearance in 2000. He also coached wide receiver Greg Jennings, a senior at Western Michigan University, during his tenure.

Kubiak's playing experience in college includes four years at Olivet College, where he was a quarterback for the Comets. He was an All-MIAA selection at the position in 1981 and graduated from Olivet in 1982. His semi-pro career includes 10 years as a player with the Lansing Crusaders in the Michigan Football League from 1982 to 1991, leading them to five championships in eight championship games. In 1992, he founded the Jackson Bombers, and in their first year in the MFL, he led the team to a 12-0 record and his sixth title.

Kubiak was also the Co-founder of the Kalamazoo Tornadoes in 1994, and in their first year, they finished as the National Runner-up in Orlando, and the team became National Champions in 1998. In 2001, Kubiak was inducted into the American Football Association Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
