Bats Open Series at St. Paul with 15-5 Loss

The Louisville Bats were subdued in their opening matchup against the St. Paul Saints, losing 15-5 at CHS Field on Tuesday night. Louisville's pitching staff allowed 17 total hits on the night, nine of which were extra-base hits.
St. Paul got the scoring started early in the bottom of the first, as Johnathan Harmon gave up a three-run home run with no outs after allowing a leadoff single and a walk. He navigated his way out of the inning, gathering two strikeouts in the process. The Bats etched into that early lead in the top of the second when Will Banfield brought two runs home on a single with bases loaded. However, St. Paul notched a solo homer in the bottom of the second, extending their lead to 4-2.
Harmon kept the Saints scoreless in the third, but gave up an RBI single after issuing a walk with one out. Louisville's defense got him out of the inning with a double play, which allowed them to cut the margin close in the fifth. With two outs, Francisco Urbaez doubled and gave way to Edwin Arroyo, who flew his first home run back with the Bats to cut St. Paul's lead to 5-4.
Harmon returned for the Bats in the fifth, and after giving up two singles, recorded two strikeouts and forced a fly out to end the inning. Harmon was replaced in the sixth, finishing his outing in five innings while giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
After a scoreless inning from Johnathan Lavallee (L, 0-3), Louisville knotted things up off a sacrifice fly out from Urbaez with the bases loaded in the seventh. Despite that being the first out of the inning, the Bats couldn't muster any further offense and left the frame tied. However, the tie didn't last much longer, as Lavallee gave up a three-run homer to the Saints in the bottom frame, giving the home team an 8-5 lead.
Thomas Farr entered for Lavallee after St. Paul put runners on the corners with singles. Farr couldn't limit the damage after a double brought both runners home. Another RBI single was the last of the scoring before a ground out ended the six-run frame by the Saints. After an empty top of the eighth from Louisville, Farr gave up a two-RBI double and a two-run home run before getting out of the inning. Another scoreless frame for the Bats at the plate cemented the 15-5 final.
