Barons win first season opener in 6 years

South Jersey Barons News Release


Atco, NJ -- The Reading Rage started the scoring with the game's first two goals in the first half by Kennedy. The Barons came back in the first half with 1 minute remaining to post their first goal of the night. Bob Francis crossed the ball into the 6 yard box and Neil Holloway headed it in the top corner for his first career goal with the Barons.

The majority of play in the second half was Barons with 10 minutes remaining in the second half the Barons tied the game with a ball crossed into Magik Agu who headed it down to Jim Harvey who than hit a left footed shot into the top left corner beating the Reading keeper.

The game finised 2-2 in regulation and went into overtime. The Barons than finised Reading off with a ball crossed into the penalty area by Matt Miles. Magik Agu coonected with the crossed ball by scoring the game winning goal with an unbeleivable diving header!

The game was an Open Cup Qualifier and a Conference Game. The South Jersey Barons are well on their way to a great 2002 season.

Friday, May 3rd 11am at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ vs. The Long Island Rough Riders (In conjunction with the DARE Program in Camden. 500 Camden Students will be bused over by the Barons from school to the game).
