
'Banner' week for Tornado organization

Three different Texas Tornado teams played games as part of the Combat Hockey Showcase in Blaine, Minn. this week, combining to go 12-1 over the five-day event. The NAHL Tornado will be the team that makes the headlines, taking home the NAHL Showcase Banner after a 4-0-0 event and a goal differential of +12. With wins over Michigan, Fresno, Janesville, and Coulee Region, the NAHL team is preparing for their home opener on September 29th against Wichita Falls. Justin Greenberg and Jackson Leef both finished the event with 8 points, and lead the entire league in scoring. Anthony Mousseau had 6 points of his own, and is tied for the league lead in defenseman scoring. Hunter Leisner started three of the four games in net, while newcomer Jerry Kaukinen picked up his first career NAHL victory.
Meanwhile, the Tornado 18U team was one of just two PHL Midget Major teams to go undefeated during the week. The 18U's won all five games they played and had a goal differential of +12, just one goal behind the St. Louis Selects 18U team. They needed a shootout to take down the Phoenix Firebirds, but also dispatched of the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, Detroit Falcons, Pittsburgh Viper Stars, and Atlanta Fire. Tommy Dierl and Chris Beck led the way offensively for the 18U's, each collecting 8 points over the five games. In net, Troy LoBue and Cooper Cothran combined for a GAA of 1.80 and a SV% of .915.
The Tornado 16U team played four games in Blaine this weekend, and got off to just as good of a start, going 3-0 in their first three games. However, they faced off against the Omaha AAA Lancers 16U's on Sunday morning and fell by a score of 2-0. Earlier in the week, they defeated the St. Louis Selects, West Michigan Hounds, and Indiana Jr. Ice by combined scores of 9-3. The 16U's utilized a well-balanced offensive attack in Blaine, getting 9 goals from seven different players. Patric Fun and Benjamin Allen each had two goals, while Logan Berlof led the team with four points. Dylan Short went 2-0 in net, including a shutout, with a 1.26 GAA and .955 SV%. Christophe Jobin went 1-1 with a 1.23 GAA and .893 SV%. Both Midget teams will play their next event in October in San Jose, Cal.
