Bandits defeat LumberJax 14-13 in 2008 NLL Edge Championship

The Buffalo Bandits defeated the Portland LumberJax Saturday night by a score of 14-13 in front a sell-out crowd of 18,690 in the 2008 Edge NLL Championship Game. This is the first title since 1996.

Mark Steenhuis was named Reebok Championship Game MVP, leading the Bandits in scoring with five goals and one assist. Mike Accursi tallied five points (1+4) for Buffalo. Kevin Dostie lit the lamp three times and posted one assist. John Tavares scored the opening goal of the game for Buffalo and finished the night with four points (2+2). Brett Bucktooth tallied one goal and two assists. Roger Vyse scored one for the Bandits and recorded one assist. Billy Dee Smith lit the lamp once a breakaway goal in the third quarter. Cory Bomberry, Clay Hill, Delby Powless and Mike Thompson each tallied one assist.

Mike Thompson made 39 saves on the night. The net minder allowed 13 goals off 52 shots on goal.

Delby Powless led Buffalo with 4 penalty minutes in the game.
