Bailey's Two Home Runs Lead to 3-2 Win

(STOCKTON, CA) - Adam Bailey doubled his season home run total on Friday night, hitting an inside the park home run and a pop-fly home run to left field, as the Lancaster JetHawks beat the Stockton Ports, 3-2, before a crowed of 3,066 at Banner Island Ballpark.

Bailey's first home run came in the top of the fourth with the JetHawks down 1-0. He hit a high fly ball deep to center field that went hit off a part of the fence that angles towards right field. The ball rolled parallel to the fence and away from center fielder Myrio Richard allowing Bailey to score without a play at the plate.

Lancaster took the lead in the top of the fifth when George Springer singled home Ben Orloff from second base. Orloff had led off the inning with a double and was batting in place of Jiovanni Mier.

Mier, who started the game at shortstop, left the game in the top of the first when he suffered a leg injury while trying to leg out a triple. Mier was helped off the field and the official status of his injury should become known on Saturday.

Stockton tied the game at two in he bottom of the fifth when Max Stassi hit his second home run of the season off starter David Martinez. Martinez, making his first start since returning from the disabled list, tossed six innings and allowed just two runs while striking out five.

With the score tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth, Bailey hit his second home run. The left-handed batter hit a fly ball to left field that barely went over the wall. The fence is just 300 feet down the left field line at Banner Island Ballpark.

With the one-run lead, Kirk Clark, pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up his first win and even his record at 1-1. Clark tossed three scoreless innings and allowed just one hit without a strike out or a walk.

The JetHawks (13-15) will take on the Ports (11-16) in game two of the series on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Bobby Doran (2-1, 3.30) will start against Josh Bowman (0-3, 5.75). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
