Bailey Catching On
The arenafootball2 league office announced that wide receiver/defensive back David Bailey has been awarded Week 4's "Cutters Catch of the Week" for his spectacular 33-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter against the Fort Wayne Fusion last Saturday in front of 7,011 fans on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.
This award is a weekly honor that emerged in 2006 to highlight the player who makes the best catch of the week. Bailey's diving touchdown grab came in the third quarter on a 33-yard pass from quarterback Ryan Porter during the Wolves' 54-41 come-from-behind win in the team's home opener against Fort Wayne.
Bailey (5-8, 170, New Hampshire), who was also in consideration for U.S . Army Ironman of the Week, finished the night with six catches for a game-high 98 yards and one score and also recorded 5.0 tackles, one interception, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery on defense.
"He stepped up in a major way for us Saturday," Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett said. "After Travis Pugh went down with a hamstring injury early in the first quarter Bailey had to come in and play defense too, he performed well and grabbed the game's only interception."
The Yonkers, NY native is entering his third year with the Wolves after a stellar four-year career (2001-2004) at the University of New Hampshire where he excelled in both football and track for the Wildcats.
The Wolves will take on the Mahoning Valley Thunder this Saturday, April 28, at 7:05 P.M. on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. All Wolves fans through the doors on game day will receive a FREE 2007 Collector Schedule Cup provided by The Union Leader.
