Back to School Kickoff
TAMPA - Tampa Bay Storm wide receiver Lawrence Samuels will participate in a Back to School Kickoff hosted by Huntington Learning Center Sunday, August 24 as Football and Education collide head on at Veteran's Memorial Park this Fall.
"This is an excellent opportunity to reach out to our youth and encourage them to focus on their studies," said Samuels. "It is great to see other players in our community give back."
Huntington Learning Center will host its 1st annual "Back to School Kickoff" August 24. The event will feature many current and former professional football players, including Lawrence Samuels, current Tampa Bay Buccaneers players, the Gramatica Brothers, Superbowl Champion Ryan Benjamin, NFL Veteran Corey Sawyer, plus a host of former UF, FSU and USF stars.
The day will include group and individualized football skills clinics and drills, free food provided by South Florida Catering, an autograph session, prizes, and a host of information on free educational opportunities for the youth of Pasco County.
The event is aimed at raising awareness about Huntington's free tutoring services that are available to qualifying elementary aged students in Pasco County. As part of the No Child Left Behind Act, HLC currently provides free after school tutoring in 16 Pasco County schools.
"The educational services are there, and they are absolutely free," said event director Chris Garrido. "What parent wouldn't want to take advantage of that? We just have to find ways of getting the information to the parents, and I think the Kickoff event will go a long way towards accomplishing that."
The Back to School Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Sunday August 24, 2008 at Veteran's Memorial Park in Hudson. The day's events are completely free of charge, (including food and drinks), and parents are strongly encouraged to attend with their kids.
