Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (www.austinaztex.com) - Midfielders Ronald Caicedo and Stephan Campbell agreed to contracts with the Austin Aztex on Thursday, pending USSF and international approval.
"Ronald and Stephan both have a lot of upside and are good young players to supplement squad. We hope we can help them move up and that this is just the first step in a long career," Head Coach Adrian Heath said.
Columbian forward Ronald Caicedo signed for three years after playing with Sarmiento Lora in Cali, Columbia, for seven of the last eight years. In between stints with the club, Caicedo signed on to play with Athletico Huila in 2008 before returning to Sarmiento Lora last year.
With Sarmiento Lora, he was named the league's Player of the Month three times and led his team to a league title three seasons.
The Florida, Columbia, native will join Stephan Campbell in the Aztex midfield, who signed on for one year with the club option for a second season in 2011.
Campbell has spent time playing for the Trinidad and Tobago U-20 National Team, as well as his club United Petrotrin, where he scored three goals a season ago.
"We've added experienced players this year with Jay Needham, Lawrence Olum, Lance Watson and Leonard Griffin, but we're mindful of the fact that we're still a developing club. We want to sign players and move them on to the next category, whatever that may be," Heath added.
