Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (www.austinaztex.com) - Wednesday night the Aztex took on the Haitian National Team at House Park in an exhibition that ended in a 0-0 draw. However, the biggest story in the match turned out to be from off the pitch, as more than 4,000 fans filled House Park and raised $11,500 for the Haitian National Team.
Donations were made throughout the match and went directly to the Haitian team. Pooled with money raised from friendlies with FC Dallas and Trinity, the team was able to raise more than $20,000 in their two and a half weeks.
After a slow start to the match, the game sprung to life 10 minutes in, when Haiti's Goalkeeper, Occenat Peterson quickly came off his line to deny Aztex midfielder Stephan Campbell on his first attempt. Immediately after, Haiti countered and Jean Baptiste Fritzson's shot went just over the crossbar.
Each team had their chances in the first half with Danny Saintus taking his shot just wide of the corner of the net and Haiti's Jean Baptiste Fritzson heading the ball high and wide.
The second half was a similar story with both sides having chances, but most of the play coming in the midfield. The best chance for the Aztex came in the 85th minute after Wes Allen's shot was blocked and fell right to Max Griffin, whose header bashed against the crossbar.
Haiti then put on the pressure in the last few minutes as substitute Angelo Dieujuste's shot rolled slowly to the Aztex goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo for a comfortable save - a shot that would be the last chance of the match for either team.
