(New York) - The Los Angeles Avengers are up to their old tricks again. After winning their first three Arena Football League games in dramatic fashion, the Avengers had lost two straight. But Sunday in Uniondale, New York, Los Angeles reverted to old form with an eleventh hour win over the New York Dragons.
Kevin Clemons blasted into the end zone on the game ¬â¢s final play to give Los Angeles a 65-61 victory over New York in front of 11,216 disappointed fans at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Avenger Coach Ed Hodgkiss called on Clemens on three consecutive running plays with the third time being the charm.
LA quarterback Tony Graziani, coming off a tough week in a loss to Georgia, redeemed himself by tossing eight touchdown passes. He completed 23 of 33 for 355 yards and no interceptions. His favorite target was Chris Jackson who hauled in 11 catches for 172 yards and four scores.
Kevin Ingram caught three Graziani passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Ingram, who seemed to appear everywhere except a Broadway musical, also accumulated 56 yards on three kickoff returns, made four tackles and contributed a couple of key pass deflections. For his efforts he was selected the ¬ÅIronman ¬Â of the contest.
New York ¬â¢s Aaron Garcia threw for eight scores as well as he continues to lead the AFL in passing. He finished the day 31-42 for 326 yards without an interception.
With the victory, the Avengers improved to 4-2 and will travel to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis next week to face the Indiana Firebirds. The Dragons, still searching for their first win, fell to 0-6.
Passing: LA- Graziani 23-33-355-8-0, NY- Garcia 31-42-326-8-0.
