Austin Aztex News Release

MIAMI - The last time the Austin Aztex visited the Miami FC Blues in early June, Austin goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo made the trip but didn't see any action. That's because Gallardo had broken his leg just two days before in Puerto Rico. On Saturday night Gallardo returned to the lineup for the first time since his serious injury and showed flashes of his skill in goal, but it wasn't enough as the Aztex fell 3-1.

In the first half, Miami tested Gallardo and his leg early. He passed.

The first test came in just the sixth minute when Gallardo had to make a spectacular diving save of a shot from Miami's Junior Baiano. Following the save, the Aztex offense came to life. In the 10th minute, Jean Alexandre, who scored a pair of goals on Wednesday night in Vancouver, played a nice through pass to a fast-charging Jamie Watson. The recently signed Watson delivered the ball on goal past Miami keeper Tim Scheoni for the early 1-0 lead.

From there, Gallardo went to work.

Over the next 20 minutes, the Austin keeper made five saves, the best coming after Miami's Brian Shriver unleashed a bending shot from 20 yards out that Gallardo fully extended his body to knock the ball out of goal and keep the home side off the board.

In the 43rd minute Miami finally beat Gallardo. It came after Miami FC's Leo Inacio stole the ball away from a Austin defender, then delivered a shot just past the outstretched hands of Gallardo to tie the match at one apiece.

Miami's Allen Marcina added another goal just before the half, and Aron King scored the final tally of the night in the 53rd minute on a through pass from Nelson Pizzaro to put away the visitors from Austin 3-1.
