TODAY'S GAME: The Iowa Cubs and the Indianapolis Indians are set to play the final game of a six-game series today...left-hander Josh Fleming is set to open the game for Iowa, with right-hander Jaxon Wiggins expected to pitch the bulk innings out of the bullpen... left-hander Hunter Barco is expected to start for Indianapolis.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Iowa Cubs fell to the Indianapolis Indians 16-3 last night... Hayden Cantrelle hit an RBI triple and Kevin Alcantara hit a home run...after taking a 1-0 lead, Indianapolis scored nine runs in the third inning to blow the game open and never look back...Chicago Cubs pitcher Daniel Palencia threw a scoreless inning of relief on Major League rehab.

THE BIG INNING: The I-Cubs surrendered nine runs in the second inning of last nights game...it is the second most runs they have allowed in a single inning this year, allowing 11 runs on June 11 in the eighth inning at Louisville.

THE JAGUAR: Outfielder Kevin Alcántara extended his on-base streak to 42 games with a walk in the first inning last night..it is the longest active on-base streak in affiliated professional baseball...Kevin broke the Iowa Cubs franchise record for the longest on- base streak in franchise history on July 26 at Gwinnett, previously held by Jonathon Long at 35 games that he set from July 9-Aug. 24, 2025...it is the longest streak in the International League this season and second longest streak this year in all of Triple-A, trailing Albuquerque's Chad Stevens' 51- game on-base streak from March 27-July 3... Kevin hit his 18th home run of the season last night, setting a new career high for home runs in a single season, surpassing his season total of 17 home runs last year with Iowa.

WALK THIS WAY: The I-Cubs matched their season high for walks in a game after walking 13 Indianapolis hitters Tuesday night...they last allowed 13 walks in a game on May 19 versus Memphis...Iowa currently leads the International League in walks allowed (573).

MILLER TIME: I-Cubs infielder Owen Miller extended his hitting streak last night to 11 games with a single in the third inning...it is the second longest active hitting streak in the International League and fourth in all of Triple-A...during the streak, Miller is batting .304 (14-for-46) with three doubles and six RBI.

ERROR MESSAGE: The I-Cubs committed four errors last night, the second time this week that they have done so and the third time they have done so this season...they have committed 12 errors in the series thus far against Indianapolis...prior to this week, they had not committed four errors in a game since April 2 at Louisville...they are tied for 15th in the International League with 92 errors on the season.

AYE-RS!: Chicago Cubs' No. 2 overall prospect and catcher Owen Ayers recorded his fifth multi-hit game on Wednesday since being promoted to Iowa...Ayers is batting .323 (20-for-62) with four doubles, one home run, 10 RBI, 12 walks, and four stolen bases in 17 appearances...Ayers played in 65 games in Double-A Knoxville, batting .304 with 16 home runs and 48 RBI...since being promoted to Iowa on the 17th of July, Owen is batting .285 (6-for-21) with four RBI...at the time of his promotion, Ayers ranked first in the Southern League in on-base percentage (.417), slugging percentage (.591), and OPS (1.008), second in batting average, third in extra-base hits (33), fifth in total bases (136), and sixth in home runs.

JUST PITCH IT: With Kohl Franlin pitching Friday night, the I-Cubs have had 24 different pitchers start a game for the team this season...56 different players have pitched in at least one game for Iowa this year, and with Hayden Cantrelle taking the mound last night, the I-Cubs have had six different position players pitch in at least one game.

CONGRATS BRETT AND JONNY!: Former I-Cubs outfielder Brett Bateman made his Major League debut with Toronto Friday night, recording his first career hit and drawing two walks...in 82 games this year with Iowa, he slashed .312/.430/.421 with three home runs, 33 RBI, 60 walks, and 20 stolen bases...Brett was traded at the deadline to Toronto in exchange for right- handed pitcher Kevin Gausman ...former Iowa infielder Jonathon Long was named the International League Player of the Month for July...he joins Pedro Ramirez as the second player to win the award with the I-Cubs this season...in the month of July, he hit .371 (33-for-89) with 13 doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI in 22 games...Long was dealt at the trade deadline alongside right-handed pitcher Jace Beck to the Miami Marlins in exchange for right-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett.
