Question from Many: "If you did have a Katrina exhibition game with the NBA, do you really think it would be a competitive game?" (This question was asked in different forms by many people).

If the NBA were to send over Tim Duncan, Shaq, Kobie, Tracy McGrady, Steve Nash and the other "Dream Teamers," I think the NBA would have a very clear superiority. They're the best players in the world. However, if the NBA were to send over players 7-12, I think they'd be very surprised at how competitive the game would be and I know that our ABA players would give them a very tough game, especially if we played with ABA rules (7 second clock, 3-D, etc). I'm not taking anything away from 7-12, but there are only 300-350 openings in the NBA - and there are thousands of great great players all over the world as the World Championships and Olympics have shown. And we have many of these fabulous players in the ABA. But, the reason for the game is not so much to show how good are players are as it is to raise a large amount of money for hurricane Katrina and Rita victims. How tough it would be for the NBA to send over 1 or 2 players from five teams, I don't know. We think it is worthwhile - and we hope they accept. And if they do come, they should be prepared to play. We will be. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.
