Questions from Ashley P, Tampa, FL: "Would the ABA ever consider doing a women's ABA? And, have you thought about doing a spring/summer ABA?"
Answer: "Ashley. Thank you for the questions. We do think there is room for another women's professional basketball league and have thought about helping to develop one. There are certainly enough great players available and the more that fans are exposed to women's basketball at the high school, college and professional level, the more they appreciate the tremendous skills that women bring to the game and the fabulous team play. Great shooting, great ball handling, outstanding defense, and team play seem to be the hallmarks of the women's game. If you know of someone interested in talking with us about this, we would be open to discuss how we can help. As for a spring/summer ABA, we have had discussions with a league now playing in the spring/summer and think that the idea of affiliating with a spring/summer league would be interesting also. It is something that could happen. Many ABA players like to play year round to keep in shape and have asked us about this. Bottom line, we are open to both concepts. If you have a question, please email conniejoenewman@aol.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
