Ask the CEO
July 19, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from EG (and others): "With the San Jose Skyrockets announcing that they are moving to Minot, North Dakota in the other league, will the ABA put a team in San Jose again?"
Answer: EG and others. Thanks for the questions. Talk about being surprised, we were.
Minot, North Dakota is a great city and the fans there deserve good professional basketball at affordable prices. The Skyrockets will provide that. However, so do the fans of San Jose and it is sad that they will not have the opportunity to see top quality, fast-paced, exciting ABA professional basketball and entertainment at affordable prices this season. The community really took to the Skyrockets and certainly deserved more than a one year effort.
Yes, the ABA will move quickly to bring a team to San Jose. It is too late for this season (I think), though we are already talking to interested groups - and are certainly open to others that might be interested. San Jose is a terrific city - the ABA wants to be there. And we'll do what we can to make that happen. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
