Question from Myra W in West Palm Beach, FL: "Do you think the large expansion for next season will be difficult to manage considering the problems that you seemed to have this season?"
Answer: Myra. Thank you for the question. I am getting many questions relating to expansion and I will attempt to answer them during the spring and summer. I do not think that the expansion will be difficult to manage. I truly believe the problems we had last season weren't so much the size of the league and the big expansion as it was because of the problems caused by the hurricanes combined with several teams that made a commitment to play - and then didn't. Having to re-schedule so many games and to fill in for these teams was a difficult task and we certainly did the best we could to manage the problem. We just had a league meeting of the expansion teams (you will be AMAZED at how many we have as many have not yet been announced). We covered the problems of last season and have developed new standards and requirements to prevent them from happening again. Our owners are extremely capable people and are confident in their ability to meet the requirements. We will also have much better communications between the league and the teams and inter-divisions too that will help in the overall management. The ABA is the largest professional sports league ever in the U.S. plus we have many teams in Canada and Mexico. Will we be problem free? No. Will we be much better? Absolutely. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
