Arizona's Floyd Named AFL Pulse Player of the Week

Published on April 8, 2014 under Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - Arizona Rattlers defensive back Marquis Floyd has been named the AFL Pulse Player of the Week for his recent philanthropic efforts.

Floyd (6-1, 190, West Georgia), now in his sixth season in the AFL and his fourth with the Rattlers, recently visited the Phoenix Children's Hospital with teammates.

"The experience was awesome," Floyd said. "One particular kid that I met named Jose had just had a bone marrow transplant and the two of us played Xbox together and we had a lot of fun."

In addition to the Children's Hospital, Floyd has also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club and the Ronald McDonald House.

As a father of two, Floyd enjoys volunteering his time to help other kids.

"I make it a point to go to these places like the Ronald McDonald House and the Children's Hospital because I really feel for these kids and their parents," Floyd said. "Despite everything they've gone through, they always have high spirits and they are always happy to be there."

Growing up in a single-parent household, Floyd spent much of his time in after-school programs and understands the impact athletes can have on youth.

"I remember meeting Dominique Wilkins as a kid and he immediately became my favorite player just because I had the chance to meet him," Floyd said. "I understand where these kids are coming from and I know from experience that it makes a kid's day to meet a professional athlete."

The Arizona Rattlers (2-0) will take on the Jacksonville Sharks (1-1) in a cross-conference battle this Saturday at home. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.

The AFL Pulse Community MVP is awarded each week in recognition of commitment to community service. The AFL Pulse Al Lucas Hero of the Year will be awarded to one player at the end of the 2014 season.
