Published on November 2, 2004 under Arizona Fall League (AzFL) News Release

TERRIFIC TUESDAY: The Arizona Fall league's 13th season continues with the Solar Sox traveling to Peoria to face the Saguaros and Rafters traveling to Phoenix to play the Desert Dogs...both games start at 1:05 pm. The day concludes with the Scorpions hosting the Javelinas with a 7:05 pm first pitch. Each team will play 38 games and the winners of the two divisions will meet in a one-game championship on November 20th at Scottsdale Stadium.

MONDAY'S RECAPS

Double Trouble: The Javelinas had a comfortable 4-2 lead until the seventh inning when the Scorpions scored eight runs, all with two outs, to beat Peoria 10-4. Corey Myers (AZ) had a three-run double with the bases loaded and Anthony Gwynn Jr. (MIL) had a two-run double in the big inning. Strong winds during the game caused numerous fly balls to drift away from outfielders. James Loney (LA) was the only player with more than one hit for the Scorpions, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. The win for Scottsdale gives them the AFL's best record at 15-7. They are now 5.5 games ahead of their nearest opponent with less than three weeks to play.

Magic Sticks: Chris Shelton's (DET) three-run home run in the first inning gave Grand Canyon an early 3-0 lead. Mike Cervenak (SF) would follow suit with a three-run shot in the third and Curtis Granderson (DET) would add a two-run bomb in the fourth on the way to a 12-4 win over Phoenix. Jesse Crain (MIN) earned his first win of the season behind two innings of no-hit baseball. Tony Pena Jr. (ATL) and Yobal Duenas (NYY) each had a solid game for Grand Canyon. At the plate, Pena was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Duenas finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. The Rafters gain a game on the Desert Dogs with the win.

Three's Company: Peoria scored twice in the top of the sixth inning on their way to a 6-5 win over the Solar Sox. The Saguaros' bullpen was sensational with Mike Johnston (PIT), Royce Ring (NYM) and Jeff Miller (PIT) each pitching a scoreless inning to close the game. Eight different players had one hit for the Saguaros. Chase Lambin (NYM) and Juan Senreiso (TEX) hit solo home runs.
