WILD ON WEDNESDAY: The Arizona Fall league's 13th season continues with the Rafters traveling to Peoria to face the Javelinas and Solar Sox traveling to Phoenix to play the Desert Dogs...both games start at 1:05 pm. The day concludes with the Scorpions hosting the Saguaros with a 7:05 pm first pitch. Each team will play 38 games and the winners of the two divisions will meet in a one-game championship on November 20th at Scottsdale Stadium.

Hall of Fame Induction Tonight: The Arizona Fall League continues its tradition of honoring former player and managers by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. Tony Peña, Sr. will be in attendance tonight for the Saguaros-Scorpions at Scottsdale Stadium. The induction ceremony will take place prior to the start of the 7:05 pm game.

Welcome Tony Peña Sr: Before winning American League Manager of the Year in 2003 with the Kansas City Royals, Tony Peña managed the Maryvale Saguaros in 2000 to a 19-22 record. He was just the fourth manager to win the award in his first full season at the helm. Peña spent three years managing Houston's AAA club, the New Orleans Zephyrs. Peña played 18 seasons in the Major Leagues before his coaching career began. He appeared in over 1,900 games for Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago and Houston. Peña's son Tony Jr. is currently playing in the AFL for the Grand Canyon Rafters.

TUESDAY'S RECAPS

House Call: For the second consecutive day the Saguaros beat the Solar Sox, winning 9-0 in Peoria Tuesday afternoon. J.R. House (PIT) led the way for Peoria going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Jason Botts (TEX) also had a good offensive day going 3-for-5 with three singles. Peoria scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to seal the victory. Singles by Juan Senreiso (TEX), Sheldon Fulse (BOS), John Hattig (TOR) and Botts created the runs. With the win, the Saguaros move past Mesa into second place in the American Division.

Rafters Rising: San Francisco prospect Mike Cervenak's three-run home run in the third inning gave Grand Canyon an early lead. Three more home runs off the bats of Detroit teammates Chris Shelton and Ryan Raburn secured a 12-6 win for the Rafters. Cervenak led the Rafters offense with four hits including a double, home run and four RBI. Shelton added three hits including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Raburn blasted two solo shots to finish 2-for-5. Pitcher Chris Begg (SF) earned his first win behind 2.2 innings of work. Begg allowed one run on two hits. Grand Canyon cut the Desert Dogs lead to 3.5 in the National Division.

Spark Plug: Peoria right fielder Ben Johnson (SD) was ejected in the middle of his at bat during the ninth inning and ignited the Javelinas offense. Paul McAnulty (SD) stepped into the batters box and broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run home run and gave the Peoria Javelinas a 5-3 win. McAnulty's home run was his first in the Arizona Fall League. He finished the night 2-for-5. Ryan Garko (CLE) led the Javelinas at the plate going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Seattle prospect Mike Morse (SEA) added two hits in the Javelinas win. Morse finished 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base.

Championship Game: The winner of the National Division and the American Division will face off for a one game playoff to determine the 2004 AFL Championship. The Championship game will be played at Scottsdale Stadium on Saturday, November 20th at 1:05 pm. The winner of the Joe Black MVP Award will be presented in a pre-game ceremony.
