Published on October 8, 2004 under Arizona Fall League (AzFL) News Release

Fantastic Friday: After an off day to recouperate their teams play their third game of the Arizona Fall League's 13th season...the Javelinas face the Saguaros and the undefeated Scorpions host the Desert Dogs with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch. The Solar Sox host the Rafters for a night cap with a 7:05 p.m. game. Each team will play 38 games and the winners of the two divisions will meet in a one-game championship on November 20th at Scottsdale Stadium.

WEDNESDAY'S RECAPS

Extra Innings: The Desert Dogs and Solar Sox ended the game tied 3-3 after 11 innings. The Solar Sox jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning but were held scoreless in the remaining innings by the outstanding performance of Phoenix's bullpen. The Desert Dogs chipped away at Mesa's lead scoring two runs in the fourth inning and their final run in the eighth. In an effort to preserve each teams bullpen, the Arizona Fall League suspends games after 11 innings of play. This is known as the "Robinson Rule", named after Expos Manager Frank Robinson whom was serving as the Director of Baseball Operations for the Fall League at the time of its conception. Suspended games may be made up at a later date.

Slugfest: The Javelinas combined for 18 hits in a 10-5 win over the Rafters at Scottsdale Stadium. Kevin Kouszmanoff (CLE) led the Javelinas offense by going 4-for-5 with two singles, two doubles and three RBIs. Southpaw Jared Thomas (SEA) earned his first win, holding Grand Canyon scoreless in three innings of work.

Dynamic Duo: Rickie Weeks (MIL) and Carlos Quentin (AZ) led the Scorpions to a 9-6 win over the Saguaros. Weeks belted a three-run home run in the second inning to give Scottsdale an early 4-0 lead. Quentin followed suit belting a two-run homer in the third inning and a two-run single with two outs in the fourth.

Hall of Fame: The Arizona Fall League continues its tradition of honoring former player and managers by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. This years inductees are Garrett Anderson (Rafters), Albert Pujols (Scorpions) and Tony Peña (Saguaros). The dates and sites of the ceremonies for each individual will be announced at a later date.

Mark Your Calendars: The Fall League will give away 100 Richie Sexson Bobblehead Dolls October 29th at Scottsdale Stadium. Winners will be selected through a lucky number drawing for all fans in attendance.
