California Commotion News Release

Los Angeles, CA - The California Commotion announced the signing of 2019 Big West Player of the Year Ari Williams on Monday.

Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif.) spent four years at Cal State Fullerton where she was a three-time All-Big West honoree.

As a senior, in 2019, she led the Titans with a .380 batting average, .620 slugging percentage, .451 on-base percentage, 65 hits and 22 extra-base hits. She also had a team-high 41 runs batted in and was second in runs scored (34).

During her freshman year, she was used primarily as a pinch runner. She made 58 appearances and earned five starts in the outfield. As a sophomore, she took over the starting spot in center field in March 2017 and held on to it for the rest of her career in Fullerton.

"I am so excited for the opportunity to represent Southern California in the professional softball arena," said Williams. "Playing the game I love at the highest level is something I've always dreamed of and is becoming a reality. I'm confident this will help kick start even more opportunities for women to continue playing after their collegiate careers finish. I can't wait to get on the field and compete alongside my new teammates."

"Ari is a determined, focused player. She will work hard for our team in every aspect. Her speed will shine on the base paths and the outfield. We look forward to her joining the team," said Deb Hartwig, Commotion General Manager.

On March 30, the Commotion will participate in their first NPF College Draft, where the team will attempt to complement the existing roster with drafted college rookies. As the league's newest franchise, the Commotion will not only make the first pick of the 2020 Draft, but will also make the first pick in all five Draft rounds.

The Commotion will open their season on April 17th against the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois at Fresno State University.
