New Jersey Ironmen News Release
NEWARK, NJ-The New Jersey Ironmen (3-1) proudly announce that forward Dan Antoniuk has been named the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Monday, November 19th. Antoniuk was critical in a New Jersey offensive attack this past weekend that defeated the Chicago Storm (3-1) by a count of 18-16 in overtime.
"Antoniuk has been tremendous for us," Omid Namazi, Ironmen Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations, stated. "It's nice to have someone that you can depend on 'night in and night out' for offensive production."
Antoniuk capped off a hat trick this past Saturday by netting the game-winning goal in the extra stanza against the previously undefeated Storm. The tally was his third two-pointer of the contest, and he also added an assist to bring his total to seven points on the night.
"The attitude that I take is to not rest on past accomplishments," Antoniuk, the runner-up to the 2007 USL Most Valuable Player award, commented. "My goal is to not become complacent or satisfied. Once you get to the top, you have to commit yourself to the hard work to stay on top."
Following last weekend's schedule of play, Antoniuk now sits atop virtually all offensive categories on the MISL leader board. He is currently second in points (18), first in goals (8), first in two-point goals (8), first in power play goals (4) and first in game-winning goals (Tie-2).
"Right now, I want the shot," Antoniuk continued. "I have good confidence in myself, and I feel like I'll make that shot."
This award marks the second time an Ironmen player has won weekly MISL accolades. Tony Meola was named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week after a season opening win over the Orlando Sharks, 7-4.
After playing four games on the road to open their inaugural season, the Ironmen are finally set to make their historical home debut at Prudential Center on Saturday, December 1st. The club will play host to the Detroit Ignition with a scheduled kickoff of 7:30 p.m. The team traveled to Detroit earlier this season and exploded for 21 points in a seven-point win. Joining the Ironmen as an honorary captain for the historical outing will be soccer legend Pelé.
Ticket lines are open now for season, individual and group ticket packages. Do not miss your chance to see Pelé help kick off the Ironmen's home slate! Call 1-800-IRONMEN or log on to www.njironmen.com today to secure your place in New Jersey Ironmen history!
