Wichita Wings News Release
The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) has finalized an agreement with Sammy Lane to join the team as an Assistant Coach. Lane coached the original Wings from 1998-2001 and played for the squad as a goal keeper from 1993-1998.
Lane is currently the head women's soccer coach at Hutchinson Community College (HCC). Lane started the Lady Dragons soccer program from scratch five years ago. In that time, HCC has put together a winning record each season and advanced to the regional semifinal in all five seasons. The Lady Dragons have played in two Region VI championship games and won the Region VI title in 2007. Lane's record over the past five seasons is 70-22-2 including a mark of 33-3-2 over the past two seasons.
Prior to leading the Lady Dragons, Lane was the head trainer for girls at River City Soccer Club in Wichita. He also coached numerous youth teams that were recognized nationally. Lane also spent time as the head women's soccer coach at McPherson College.
Wings head coach LeBaron Hollimon is excited about the addition of Lane to the staff. "Sammy has always been my first choice as the person I wanted with me to help bring Wichita and its wonderful community of supporters a championship team. Sammy brings to the table a wealth of soccer knowledge and the burning desire to be successful. There is no doubt I have the right man helping me guide the team."
The Wings will open training camp in mid-October with the first game sometime in November. Season tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling Jeremy at the Hartman Arena Box Office at 316-744-8880.
