Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA, FL -- Andre Bowden, the Tampa Bay Storm's all-time leading rusher and the team's career leader in sacks, has re-signed with the club, head coach Tim Marcum announced.

Bowden (6-2, 260, Fayetteville St.), who played for the Storm from 1991-1993 and again from 1997-2001, returns to Tampa Bay after spending the 2002 season with the Carolina Cobras. This will be his tenth season in the AFL and ninth year with the Storm. It will also be his third different stint with Tampa Bay.

One of the top fullback/linebackers in AFL history, Bowden has 1,194 career rushing yards, second only to former Storm FB/LB Les Barley on the AFL's all-time rushing list. His 1,104 rushing yards while with Tampa Bay distances himself from Barley on the Storm's all-time rushing list. Barley had 777 rushing yards while with the Storm.

Bowden also holds Storm career records for rushes (379) and rushing touchdowns (73) and set Storm single season marks for rushes (85 in 1993), rushing yards (308 in 1993), and rushing touchdowns (15 in 1993).

Bowden's AFL dominance has not come only on the offensive side of the ball. He has 34.5 career sacks, fourth-most in league history. All but three of those sacks came as a member of the Storm, with whom he holds the career record in that category.

Bowden, who rushed for 90 yards and 12 touchdowns and recorded 16.5 tackles and three sacks last season for Carolina, won ArenaBowl championships with the Storm in 1991 and 1993. He played for the New England Patriots in 1994 and 1995 before missing the 1996 season with an injury. He played the 1997 season with the Frankfurt Galaxy of the World League before returning the the Storm for the final five games of the 1997 regular season.

To make room for Bowden Tampa Bay placed defensive specialist John Williams on the injured list. Williams has yet to play in a regular season game for the Storm this season.

Tampa Bay returns to action on Friday night when it hosts the Arizona Rattlers at 7:30 pm in the St. Pete Times Forum. The Storm have won five consecutive games and, with a 6-2 overall mark, are tied for the best record in the league.
