SHELTON, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam received a career-best 28 points from guard Morris Anderson as they defeated the Olympia Reign, 133-104, in the International Basketball League season opener for both teams at the Little Creek Casino Events Center on Friday.
Rookie forward Jeremy Green was active early in his first professional game, netting the Slam's first two buckets and helping Bellingham to a 29-17 first quarter lead.
After an evenly played second quarter, the Slam led 61-53 at halftime.
After Bellingham built a 22-point lead in the middle stages of the third quarter, Olympia used a 14-4 run late in the frame to trim the deficit to 87-75.
But an offensive flurry early in the fourth quarter pushed the Slam's lead to 28 halfway through the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the Reign.
Anderson's game-high 28 points were followed closely by 27 from guard Ira Graham. Green finished with a respectable 15 points while center Blake Poole finished with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Guard Mike Ward led six Reign players in double figures with 21 points.
The victory was the fifth straight for the Slam over the Reign after sweeping last season's four-game series.
The Slam will return to Bellingham on Saturday as they host the Salem Soldiers in their home opener. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
