BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Bellingham Slam guard Morris Anderson continued his hot start to the International Basketball League season as he scored 29 points and paced the Slam to a 127-110 win over the Vancouver Volcanoes on Monday at Whatcom Pavilion.

Anderson, who scored 19 points in each of the Slam's two road wins in Portland and Vancouver over the weekend, has emerged as one of the team's most efficient shooters this year. With a 3-for-3 showing from three-point range tonight, he is shooting a remarkable 52 percent (25-of-48) beyond the arc.

Coming off a 134-122 win for the Slam in Vancouver on Saturday, the Volcanoes came out with a determined effort in the rematch, led by guard Andre Murray who scored 10 points early as Vancouver led 18-16 midway through the first quarter.

But Anderson responded for the Slam, scoring 9 in the last four minutes of the opening frame to give Bellingham a 40-30 lead.

The Volcanoes opened and closed the second quarter with a pair of runs, but Bellingham was able to do enough damage in the middle states of the quarter to hold a 69-56 lead at the half.

Vancouver opened the second half with three of the first four scores to get the margin back down to single digits, at 71-62. But Bellingham reacted with the next four baskets to push the lead back to a more comfortable level. The Slam defense held Vancouver's Murray, the IBL's leading scorer, to just a single point in the third quarter as they led 98-82.

In the fourth quarter, the Slam prevented the Volcanoes from putting together any significant scoring runs to preserve the victory, their sixth straight.

Anderson's team-leading 29 points for Bellingham (7-2) came by way of 10-of-11 shooting from the floor. Guard Sam Freeman continued his strong play over the holiday weekend with 24 points.

Center Calvin Hampton led Vancouver (5-3) with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Slam hit the road for three games in Los Angeles next weekend, before returning home to face the Santa Barbara Breakers on Friday, June 6. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
