Anderson Leads Slam to Tenth Straight Win in Seattle

Bellingham Slam News Release

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam handled everything the Seattle Flight threw at them, including NBA talent, in a 115-106 International Basketball League win at North Seattle Communiuty College on Saturday.

It appeared the Slam would be able to cruise to another victory, as they quickly established a double-digit lead and held it until the late stages of the third quarter. The Slam led 55-42 at halftime.

The Flight began their push with under a minute to go in the third quarter, as forward Marcellus Kemp scored two quick baskets to trim the deficit to eight, at 79-71. But center Austin Bragg responded for the Slam, nailing a three-poiner at the buzzer from just inside half court to reestablish a double-digit lead.

Things got dicey for the Slam in the fourth quarter, as former NBA guard Will Conroy connected on a pair of three-pointers to trim the lead to four, at 104-100 with 2:31 left.

But Bellingham responded with a clutch three from center Blake Poole, which was immediately followed by a steal and thunderous dunk by guard Morris Anderson, to give to Slam some breathing room at 110-102.

A pair of critical turnovers by the Flight under a minute prevented a comeback and preserved the Slam victory.

Anderson led all scorers with a game-high 26 points to give Bellingham its tenth straight win. Poole finished with a double-double of 16 points and 20 rebounds.

Rashaad Powell led Seattle with 20 points, while Conroy finished with 14 points and a game-high 9 assists.

The Slam return to action next weekend to face the Houston Strikers in a home game at Blaine High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
