Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Lars Anderson, who played first base for the JetHawks in 2007 and 2008, made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox in Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Anderson became the 98th former JetHawk to graduate to the Major Leagues since the franchise's inception in 1996.
Anderson went hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts in Boston's 12-5 victory over the Rays. He was batting .330 in his final 25 games with the Pawtucket Red Sox, Boston's Triple-A affiliate prior to his promotion on September 5.
Anderson played in 10 games with the JetHawks in 2007 and he compiled a .343 batting average with a home run and nine RBIs in 35 at-bats. He returned to Lancaster in 2008 and posted a .317 average with 13 homers and 50 RBIs in 77 games.
The 22-year-old Oakland native was selected by the Red Sox in the 18th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Jesuit High School in Carmichael, Calif. He entered the 2010 season ranked as the fourth-best prospect in Boston's minor league system by Baseball America.
Nine former JetHawks have made their Major League debuts in the 2010 season. That brings the total number of JetHawks who have reached the big leagues to 98. The franchise record for debuts in a single season is 13, which was established during the 2004 campaign.
The 2011 season marks the 16th anniversary of professional baseball in the Antelope Valley, and since its inaugural game in 1996, The Hangar has produced more than 90 Major Leaguers and inducted 25 members into The JetHawks Hall of Fame.
