Anaheim Bolts Fall to San Diego in Home Opener

November 13, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Anaheim Bolts News Release

Anaheim, CA- The Anaheim Bolts had their inaugural match and home opener in the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) spoiled by the San Diego Sockers. The Sockers used a late 5-0 fourth quarter surge to come out on top 10-6, but the match was a lot closer than the score-line suggests.

Enrique Tovar etched his name into Bolts folklore when he scored the first ever goal in PASL history off a feed from Marcus Watson at the 10:53 mark of the first quarter to give the home side the 1-0 lead.

From that point on the Bolts never trailed as the sides traded goals throughout the next three quarters.

The Bolts took a 6-5 lead through Hugo Casillas 16 seconds into the final frame on a power-play.

After running with the defending champs for 45 minutes, however, San Diego's experience began to tell as they rattled off the next five goals to finish with a somewhat comfortable victory.

Eric Wunderle tied the match up just before the 11 minute mark. Dan Antoniuk scored what proved to be the game-winner with 7:22 seconds left to go in the contest. Further goals by Kraig Chiles (his 2nd of the night), Brian Farber, and Nate Hetherington finished off the game in style for the visitors.

"We played well and work hard for each other," Bolts midfielder Carlos Borja said after the game. "In the fourth quarter we didn't play smart. We tried to continue to run with them instead of realizing that we are a better team when we keep the ball."

Owner and Head Coach Bernie Lilavois was happy with the club's first run out. "We played well tonight against a very experienced and veteran laden team. It was a good first night and we will only get better."

Jesus Molina finished the match with 18 saves in a losing effort while Riley Swift recorded 14 saves for his first win of the season.

The Bolts and Sockers will face off again next Saturday in San Diego for round two of what promises to be a great rivalry this season.
