American Forces Network to Showcase Triple-A National Championship

Triple-A Baseball (International and Pacific Coast Leagues) announced today that the American Forces Network will showcase the 2010 Triple-A National Championship Game, set for Tuesday, September 21 at 8:00 p.m. eastern, for the U.S. Armed Forces stationed overseas. The American Forces Broadcast Center (AFN-BC) will carry the winner-take-all game live via the VERSUS telecast.
AFN-BC distributes U.S. entertainment, sports and news programming to approximately 1 million U.S. Armed Forces and Department of Defense civilian employees and their families stationed outside the United States in 175 countries and aboard more than 140 U.S. Navy ships at sea. The 2010 Triple-A Baseball National Championship Game will determine the overall champion of the classification. On September 21, the International League's Governors' Cup Champion and the Pacific Coast League Champion will meet in Oklahoma City's AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (home of the Oklahoma City RedHawks) in a winner-take-all showdown. The International League club will be considered the home team for this year's game, thanks to the IL's victory at July's Triple-A All-Star Game.
Triple-A Baseball, Minor League Baseball's highest classification, is comprised of 30 teams throughout America which develop talent for Major League affiliates while providing affordable entertainment for fans of all ages. The 2010 campaign is the 107th season of operation for the Pacific Coast League and the 127th season for the International League.
The National Championship Game will be televised in the U.S. on VERSUS, the fastest growing sports cable network in the country. The 2010 contest will be the second professional baseball game ever televised on VERSUS, following the June 3 matchup of IL opponents Buffalo and Syracuse which featured the final Minor League appearance by pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg.
Round Rock Express broadcaster Mike Capps will serve as the play-by-play voice of the Triple-A National Championship Game, to be joined in the booth by Chris Chambliss, former Major League All-Star and current manager of the Charlotte Knights. Oklahoma City RedHawks broadcaster Jim Byers will serve as the field reporter.
