Bellingham Slam News Release
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam had little trouble in dispatching the Tacoma Tide, 126-108, in an International Basketball League game on Thursday night at Curtis High School.
The Slam's offense was clicking early, as they posted 39 points in the first quarter. Hafford was again hot from outside, scoring 19 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting.
The second quarter featured a series of runs by both teams, but the Slam continued to get the better of the Tide as they scored 15 straight in the middle stages of the period, an eventually took a 76-52 lead into halftime.
The two teams played an even third quarter, with each squad posting 23 points and Bellingham leading 99-75.
Tacoma made things somewhat interesting early in the fourth quarter as they rattled off three consecutive three-pointers to bring the Tide within 16, at 99-85. Tacoma later cut the lead to 13 with under five minutes to play, but the Slam offense regrouped to extend the lead and preserve the victory.
Paul Hafford led the Slam in scoring for the second straight game with 28 points, including eight three-pointers. Jacob Stevenson had a double-double with 18 points and 12 assists, while Tyler Amaya posted 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in his first game back.
Antwan Williams and Justin Murray shared top scorer honors for Tacoma with 19 points each.
The Slam stay on the road for one more game, as they face the Olympia Reign in big divisional contest on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Nisqually Community Center in Lacey. The team returns home Sunday to face the Oregon Waves, with a 5 p.m. tip-off scheduled for Whatcom Pavilion.
