Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, Texas The Amarillo Dusters will travel to Spokane Washington this weekend to face the Western Division Champion Spokane Shock in the National Conference Championship game. This will be the first time the Dusters will play the Shock since the 2007 regular season. The Shock own the series lead over the Dusters at 3-0.
"They own the best record in the af2 at 17-1 and had four players make the First-Team All-af2 team," said head coach Chris MacKeown, "needless to say this will be the toughest test we will have all year."
The winner of this game will move on to Arena Cup IX where they will face off against the winner of the game between the Manchester Wolves and the Tennessee Valley Vipers.
"We're going to have to do the best job of protecting the quarterback that we have done all year because they have the best pass rush in the league," MacKeown said. "Trying to throw off their offensive rhythm will also be key for us."
QB Julian Reese will lead the Dusters offense. The Dusters trio of wide receivers will be Jim Lukowiak, Craig Fulton Jr., and Bobby Chase will also start. The offensive line consisting of Rob Nelson, Aaron Turner, and Randy Degg, round out the offensive starters.
The Shock have won their last six games and are 17-1 overall. They are led by starting QB Nick Davila who ranks third in the entire league in passing efficiency with a rating of 119.2.
The players to keep an eye on for the Shock include their WR Raul Vijil who was named to the First Team All-af2 squad. The Shock also boast a solid secondary led by DB Sergio Gilliam that led the af2 in interceptions with 16, earning him rookie of the year honors and First Team All-af2.
All Duster fans are invited to watch this playoff game at the Dusters official watch party at Beef O'Brady's on 34th and Coulter. Coverage of this game begins at 9:00 pm.
