Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - The Amarillo Venom (3-2, LSFL), the defending Lone Star Football League champions, will aim to recreate a winning streak against the New Mexico Stars (2-3, LSFL) at the Cal Farley Coliseum on May 3 at 7:05 p.m. This matchup is the third meeting out of the four slated between the Venom and Stars thus far into the 2014 season.
In this proverbial rivalry between the two squads, the Amarillo Venom will be anchored by fullback/defensive end Undre Hendrix and wide receiver Raymond Johnson. Hendrix added in another dimension to the Venom offense with four rushing touchdowns, and a touchdown reception for the winning cause.
Johnson would use his flash and substance to haul in six catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns. The LSFL Special Teams Player of the Week would also return four kickoffs for 97 yards, with one returned for a 48 yard touchdown.
The Stars, on the other hand, are led by quarterback Andrew McGlory. In the last time the Venom and the Stars met, McGlory went 21 of 29 for 282 yards and five touchdowns. McGlory also added in two rushing touchdowns to aid his stellar performance. Defensive back Marcus Smith will be another player to look for, picking off three passes and returning two of those passes for touchdowns in the Stars home victory over the Venom.
Returning to the Venom, defensive back Kendrick Walker will seek to cure the Venom's pass defense woes. Walker was helpful in securing the Venom victory against the West Texas Wildcatters last week, grabbing a crucial interception in the closing minutes of the game.
The Venom will celebrate not one, but two festivities this week with Los Venom and Ladies night. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive a free a free #RuATrueFan t-shirt, courtesy of Suddenlink Communications, AquaOne, Westgate Mall, Enchanted Florist, Gene Messer Ford and American Classifieds. The ladies will receive a flower from Enchanted Florist, along with a chance to win prizes from Amarillo Laser and Vein Clinic.
