Amarillo Venom Return to New Mexico, Look to Rebound against Stars

April 19, 2014 - Lone Star Football League (LSFL)
Amarillo Venom News Release

RIO RANCHO, N.M. - Returning from a week long hiatus, the Amarillo Venom (2-1, LSFL) seek to rebound as they make their second road trip to the Santa Ana Star Center to battle the New Mexico Stars (1-3, LSFL) for the second time this season. The contest will take place on April 19 at 8:05 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.

Before the loss to the San Angelo Bandits on April 5, the Amarillo Venom rode to the top of the Lone Star Football League standings by dispatching the Stars in the first week, cruising in the International Championship against the LEXFA All-Stars and defeating the Rio Grande Valley Sol in the home opener on March 29. Due to taking the week off, Amarillo finds itself a game behind San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley in the standings with a 2-1 record.

Meanwhile, the Stars have struggled to find a footing in the LSFL, dropping to the San Angelo Bandits at San Angelo on April 12. New Mexico's only victory of the 2014 campaign came at home against the West Texas Wildcatters on March 29.

Leading the Venom into the rematch will be wide receiver DJ Beshears, who caught two touchdown passes against San Angelo on April 5. The former Kansas Jayhawk has been a gamebreaker for the Venom, aiding Amarillo in their victories against New Mexico and Rio Grande Valley while keeping the Venom close in their loss to San Angelo.

On the other hand, the Stars are led by quarterback Andrew McGlory. The six foot four inch rookie from Prairie View A&M has led the Stars with five touchdown passes and rushed for two more in their lone win against West Texas. However, the Stars have had trouble containing explosive offenses, as evident in allowing San Angelo quarterback Luke Collis to throw for 276 yards and four touchdowns in New Mexico's loss on April 12.

For one to view this game, the public is invited to come out to Joe Daddy's at 7:45 p.m. for the Venom away game watch party. Joe Daddy's is located at 2108 Paramount Blvd in Amarillo.

The Amarillo Venom are a proud member of the LSFL. For more information and tickets, contact the Amarillo Venom office at (806) 350-7277.
