THE STAKES: The Dusters are riding a two-game winning streak, with both wins coming on the road. The Dusters are also attempting to start a new home-game winning streak, as the previous home winning streak of 11 games was snapped in week 2 against Memphis. Quad City is riding a three-game winning streak, including last week's upset victory over Memphis. The winner of the game will have at least a share of 1st place in the Midwest Division.
OLD FACES NEW:
The Steamwheelers are an original Af2 franchise, owned by Arena Football Founder Jim Foster. The Steamwheelers have won 2 ArenaCup Championships, including the league's only undefeated season. The Dusters are in their inaugural Af2 season.
COACH PERDUE'S THOUGHTS ON QUAD CITY:
"The Key to this game for us will be how we are able to handle adversity and stay focused. We are one of the most penalized teams in the entire league. We had 13 penalties against San Diego last week alone. It's all mental stuff, an overall lack of focus on the small details. I can't tell you how many false starts and off-sides penalties we've had. It's very frustrating and it takes away from the momentum that we build. They are very disciplined, and they have veteran players and a veteran Head Coach. They understand every aspect of the game, where we still have guys who are learning on the fly. Their quarterback is very solid, and has improved each of the last three weeks. We cannot be sloppy and expect to have a snowball's chance against these guys. "
DUSTERS HEAD COACH STEVE PERDUE
PERDUE'S DEBUT A SUCCESS:
Coach Steve Perdue's debut as the Head Coach of the Dusters was a huge success, as the Dusters defeated the San Diego Riptide 49-31. The Dusters turned in their best defensive performance of the season, allowing only 31 points and 165 total yards of offense.
FRAZIER RETURNS TO TEXAS:
Steamwheelers Head Coach Rick Frazier makes his return to Texas on Saturday night. Frazier graduated from East Texas State University and is the all-time winningest coach at Cisco Junior College. He coached at Cisco alongside Borger HS Head Coach Craig Shores. He also coached at Cumby HS and has coached arena football since 1995.
FOSTER TO APPEAR ON DUSTERS RADIO BROADCAST
Arena Football Founder and Steamwheelers owner Jim Foster will make a special appearance at halftime on the Dusters radio broadcast. The broadcast can be heard locally on 1440 AM The Score. Fans can also tune in via the Dusters website at www.dustersfootball.com. Foster invented the game on a manila envelope while watching an indoor soccer game at Madison Square Garden in the 1980's. Almost 20 seasons after the first ever arena football game was played, arena football has stretched from coast to coast in the United States and around the globe with teams playing in Europe, Japan, and Australia.
KEY MATCHUP: QB PLAY
Two of the hottest gunslingers in Af2 will face off on Saturday night. Dusters QB Julian Reese has had a phenomenal season thus far, twice earning Af2 Offensive Player of the Week Honors. In 4 games, he has completed 63.3 % of his passes for 1,056 yards, 19 TD's and only 1 interception. He has also rushed for 12 TD's as well. Steamwheelers QB Sam Clemons has also been on fire since joining the team, completing 66.7% of his passes for 968 yards, 17 TD's, and only 4 INT's.
