Amarillo defeats Shreveport, 13-5

Amarillo pounded out 18 hits as they defeated the Shreveport Sports 13-5 at Fair Grounds Field Sunday to complete a sweep of the three-game series.

The Dillas jumped on Sports starter Jason Slanina for three runs in the first inning and added four more runs in the third. Dan Meier led the attack with five hits while Benny Craig had four hits for Amarillo, who remains in first place in the Western Division of the Central League.

The loss drops the Sports to 5-9 in the second half and matches their longest losing streak of the season at four games.

Marcos Castillo went eight innings for Amarillo to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Amarillo won the season series from Shreveport nine games to five.

The Sports will have an off day on Monday and will open a three game series against Edinburg at Fair Grounds Field Tuesday at 7:05 pm.
