Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, CA - George Springer and Bobby Doran will head to North Carolina on Sunday morning to represent the JetHawks at the California-Carolina League All-Star Game. On Saturday night, they let everyone know why they're getting the opportunity.

Springer went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI's and a stolen base and Doran (6-4) held the Inland Empire 66ers to just two runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings in a 5-3 JetHawks win on Saturday night at The Hangar. The win finished off a three game sweep and propelled the JetHawks to a 37-33 record to finish the first half, their best record ever as an affiliate of the Houston Astros.

The win, combined with High Desert's victory over Rancho Cucamonga, also moved the JetHawks into a three-way tie for first place to finish the first half. The Mavericks and Quakes will play a one-game playoff to decide the first half winner. Of the three teams, Lancaster has the worst head-to-head record and will not get the chance to play for the first half title.

Springer got things started in the third winning when he reached on a single against 66ers starter Lay Batista (3-6). The outfielder proceeded to steal second base, move to third on an errant throw by catcher Ricky Pacione and score on a Batista wild pitch. The JetHawks led 1-0.

C.J. Cron hit a solo home run in he top of the fourth to tie the game 1-1. It was just the second home run Doran allowed to a right-handed hitter this season.

In the fourth inning, Chris Epps hit his second home run in as many days, knocking a low fastball over the right field fence to drive in himself and Jonathan Meyer, who had led off the inning with a single.

With Lancaster up 3-1 in the fifth, Ben Heath and Ben Orloff started the inning with singles to set up an RBI chance for Springer. He came through with a double into the left center field gap to score both runners. Springer was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

Cron knocked in two runs in the eighth inning with a single against Jose Trinidad but it was too little and too late for the 66ers. Andrew Robinson pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth save.

Doran finished the first half tied for the team lead with six wins and a 3.67 ERA. Springer is hitting .303 with 14 homers, 48 RBI and a team-high 14 stolen bases.

The two All-Stars will participate in the game on Tuesday, June 19 at BB&T Ballpark in Winstom-Salem, NC. Springer will participate in the Home Run Derby starting at 6 pm ET. The game will begin at 7:15 pm ET. Video coverage of the game can be found on milb.tv. Audio coverage will be provided on wsdash.com.
