Philadelphia Rebels News Release

Jamestown, New York - Jamestown Rebels are pleased to announce that Alexandre Roy has committed to The University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO), effective fall 2019.

Alex becomes the first player to commit to a college for the Rebels this season. The 20-year-old Québec native will be taking his talents to the NCAA Division 1 level. The 6'6" 210lb left handed defenseman is in his final year of eligibility for junior hockey. With a combined 61 points in his 161 games played in his young career, he is averaging 0.37 points-per-game.

Roy began his career in the QMEAA from 2012-2015. In his 53 games played in those three years he tallied 20 points. After his time in the QMEAA, Alex went to the Queens Court Hockey league (QCHL). He spent another three years there playing a total of 104 games and recording 40 points. Now he is in the NAHL for his last season of junior hockey and is looking to take what he learns from the Rebels with him to UNO.

Alexandre Roy had this to say about his commitment to play hockey at the D I level. "I am excited to commit to UNO, it is a school I have always wanted to play for while I was in Montréal the past three years because I knew the coach back there. College hockey is something I have always wanted to play in because I know it is a step before professional hockey. Because in college you get better, stronger, and older which makes you ready for the pros. I think going to play at UNO is the best thing that has happened for me this year." Head coach Joe Coombs talked very highly of the new NCAA commit. "Alex has a huge upside that quite honestly could take him to the NHL. I could not be happier than to have him with us. He is a great leader, even though I have known him for a short time."

The Jamestown Rebels are always looking to have their players succeed on and off the ice. They have excelled in having players go on to play for the NCAA. Just last season, the Rebels had ten players commit to colleges across the country. They are hoping to continue their success this season. Season tickets are still available for more information call (716)-484-2624.
