Albany Empire News Release
ALBANY- The Albany Empire announce that Megan Grabowski has been named Head Choreographer of the Empire dance team; the Albany Empresses. In addition, the Albany Empire and Grabowski also announce open call auditions for the 2019 season dance team, to be held on November 3 at the Albany Capital Center.
A native of Blue Ash, Ohio, Grabowski has been dancing since the age of six. She began dancing competitively at a young age when she joined The Studio Company while training ballet at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the Cincinnati Ballet. Grabowski attended Kent State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and performed on the KSU Dance Team. While in college, Grabowski received the Eugenia V. Erdmann award in consecutive years for her demonstration of leadership and creative contribution to dance, strong potential for achieving career goals, and service to the University, School of Theatre and Dance, and the community.
"I am excited for this opportunity to help the organization," said Grabowski. "After a friend introduced me to the opening for Choreographer, I knew that it was for me. I can't wait to combine my love of sports and dance and help these girls grow as dancers and individuals."
After graduating, she continued her training in modern dance in New York City at Dance Space and in Boston at Green Street Studios. Prior to coming to Albany, Grabowski had danced with the Cincinnati Ballet, performed on NBC's "Today Show," and showcased her talent at Carnegie Hall with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. Grabowski transitioned to Albany in 2006 and has spent the last seven years as a Dance Instructor at the Turning Pointe Dance Center in Latham.
"The Albany Empresses are much more than a dance team for our organization," said George Manias, C.O.O. of the Albany Empire. "The gameday entertainment they provide to our fans is just a small portion of what the Empresses do. The ladies on our squad are major components of our community outreach programs and help us stay visible and involved out in the community year-round. Megan's addition to our organization not only will ensure that we don't miss a beat with the first-class entertainment the Empresses have proven to provide on gamedays at the Times Union Center, but now also gives us the ability to make us even more active out in our community. I couldn't be more excited about the addition of Megan to our staff and the commitment she has to help us grow both on and off the field."
