Albany Empire Head Coach Disciplined for Verbal Altercation
July 9, 2019 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
Philadelphia, Pa. - The Arena Football League announced today that Rob Keefe, Head Coach of the Albany Empire, was fined $3,500 for his conduct during, and after, the Philadelphia-Albany game on June 29th.
It was reported to the League that both during and following the game, Coach Keefe engaged in verbal altercations with Philadelphia Soul players. Following these reports, the League conducted a thorough review of the matter and subsequently determined that Coach Keefe's conduct and interactions with the Soul's athletes were not consistent with League standards.
AFL Commissioner Randall Boe said, "Coach Keefe is a talented coach and important to both his team and the Arena Football League. But the League simply cannot tolerate the kind of conduct by that was exhibited during and after the Albany-Philadelphia game- particularly by a coach in this League."
Coach Keefe recognized his misbehavior, and issued the following apology:
"I agree that my behavior and conduct during the Philadelphia game was inappropriate and that I did not live up to the standard of conduct expected of a head coach in the Arena Football League. I genuinely apologize for my actions and extend my apologies to the Philadelphia Soul, the Arena Football League and the entire Empire team and staff."
The League has no further comment on the issue.
