Alabama Renegades Overpower Leopards

The Alabama Renegades again held their opponent scoreless in a 55-0 win over the Atlanta Leopards. Wendy Everett got the scoring started when she returned the opening kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown. The defense kept the Leopards out of the endzone and the Renegade offense never looked back.

Quarterback Nancy Byrd was perfect in the passing game completing three passes in three attempts for 148 yards and three touchdowns. She also ran for one touchdown. Katie Buckley, Nikie Hunter, and Wendy Everett each caught one touchdown a piece. In her runningback debut, Tammy Wissel found the end zone twice rushing for 129 yards on five carries. Wissel also performed kicking duties, hitting seven out of eight extra point attempts and averaging almost 40 yards on kickoffs.

The Renegade defense was led by linebacker Wendy Everett who recorded seven tackles, three assists, and a sack. Strong safety Bird Gholston, linebacker Vicky Kennedy, and linebacker Kim Lee also got into the tackling action. Gholston made five tackles and five assists with one pass defended, Kennedy made five tackles with two assists, and Lee made seven tackles with one assist. Cornerback Nikie Hunter added five tackles, one assist, and an interception. Hunter has now made an interception in the past three games.

The Alabama Renegades return to their home field this Saturday, May 22, to take on the Pensacola Power. The Power are undefeated on the season and the Renegades are riding a three game win streak. The action will kickoff at 7:00 pm at Goldsmith Schiffman Field.
