Akron Races Past Force in Series Finale

AKRON, Ohio - Down by three runs going into the top of the fifth inning, the Force managed to storm back to even the score at 3-3. Unfortunately, their late comeback fell just short as the host Akron Racers pulled out a 7-3 win to take the series finale Sunday afternoon at Firestone Stadium.

With the loss the Force fell to 3-11 on the season, while the Racers improved to 8-7 overall.

Pacing the Racers' victory were a pair of home runs throughout Sunday's contest. Lisa Modglin and Crystal Bustos combined for three runs scored on the afternoon. For Philly, Emily Friedman and DeAnn Justice each recorded a pair of hits, with Friedman earning one of the team's three runs.

In the circle, Akron's Angela Tincher picked up the win after a 2 2/3 inning outing. During her short outing, Tincher surrendered just one hit and had three strikeouts. Starting off the afternoon for Akron was Lisa Norris who threw the first 4 1/3 innings totaling more than 100 pitches.

Phiadelphia saw three pitchers step into the circle Sunday afternoon. Earning the start was Jessica Sallinger, followed by Darcy Wood (L 0-1), and Samantha Yodowitz. Wood's appearance was the first of her career with the Force. Combined the trio of pitchers allowed just six hits respectively.

Akron broke the scoreless draw in the early innings of Sunday's series finale. After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, they then added two more runs in the fourth. The Force evened the score at 3-3 in the fifth, but that tie did not last as Akron put up three runs in the bottom half of the same inning. The Racers secured the victory in the sixth with their final run of the day to secure the 7-3 win.

The Force return to action on July 2nd when they host the Stratford Brakettes at ECTB Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. EST.
