AIFL Welcomes Canton, OH As League's Fourth Franchise

Published on January 8, 2005 under American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release

The Atlantic Indoor Football League is proud to announce the addition of Canton (OH) to the league for its inaugural season, starting April 1, 2005.

Canton becomes the AIFL's franchise and joins the Johnstown (PA) Riverhawks, Carolina Sharks and the Erie (PA) Freeze.

League President Andrew Haines appeared at a press conference Thursday at the Canton Memorial Civic Center, where the team will play its home games. The facility seats nearly 4,000 fans.

Fans are invited to help select a name for the franchise by entering a "Name The Team" contest online at www.aiflcanton.com. The fan who picks the winning team name will win season tickets to their home games for life. Should more than one person choose the winning name, a drawing will be conducted to decide the winner.

Season tickets for the team are currently available with prices for seven home games at $48, $80, $98 and $160.

The league is also looking to fill positions in the team's front office. If you are interested in being considered, please e-mail your resume to ahaines@aiflonline.com.

Canton's civic center, located at 1101 Market Avenue North, will also play host to two upcoming league events.

On Saturday, January 15, the venue will be the site of a league's Owners Meeting, in which other cities will be announced as franchises for the upcoming season and the league's schedule will be finalized, among other business.

On Sunday, January 16, the AIFL will hold its final pre-draft player combine. The combine will be the last opportunity for players who wish to be considered eligible to be selected in the league's first draft, set for January 22 in Washington, D.C.

Registration for the combine takes place at 11 a.m. Those who pre-register through the league office before January 13 will be charged $100. After that date, the cost will be $135.

The tryout, to be held on indoor AstroTurf, will be open to all players and consist of the following activities: 10 and 40-yard dashes, L-drill, individual position drills, one-on-one drills and 7 vs. 7 drills.
