AIFL Names Players Of The Week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The American Indoor Football League Northern Conference Week 16 players of the week are as follows.

Offense: David Dinkins, Erie Freeze. Rushed for four touchdowns and threw for three more as Erie crushed Johnstown to clinch the final Northern Conference playoff berth.

Defense: Matt Sola, Reading Express and Thomas Matthews, Canton Legends. Sola had eight tackles and one interception as The Express won its 11th consecutive game with a 74-25 decision over the Philadelphia Scorpions. Matthews posted 3.5 tackles, a tackle for loss and an interception as the Legends downed the Miami Valley Silverbacks 50-28 to earn a home playoff berth.

Lineman: Craig Prince, Erie Freeze. Registered four sacks as Erie held Johnstown to 85 total yards in its 49-16 victory.

Special Teams: Armar Watson, Reading Express. Had the Northern Conference's special team highlight of the week with a 51-yard kickoff return.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The American Indoor Football League's Southern Conference players of the week for the final week of the regular season are as follows:

Offense: Robbie Jenkins, Richmond Bandits and Anthony Young, Augusta Spartans. Jenkins threw eight touchdowns and led the Bandits to touchdowns on all 11 possessions as the defeated the CV Vipers 74-62. Young caught four touchdown passes, including one at the buzzer and one in overtime as the Spartans downed the Raleigh Rebels 48-40.

Defense: Deario Grimmage, Augusta Spartans. Came up with big defensive plays in overtime, including a fumble recovery, as Augusta pulled off the victory.

Lineman: Reggie Poole, Rome Renegades. Kept Bo Bartik off the carpet and Daytona Beach's defensive line at bay as the Renegades clinched the southern conference's regular season title with a 61-39 victory over the Thunder.

Special Teams: Danny Marshall, Rome Renegades. Converted a league-record 57-yard field goal at a crucial juncture - Daytona Beach had just closed to two scores and forced a three-and-out - that preserved the Rome momentum. He also had a 21-yarder, a rouge and was 6-7 on PATs.
