AIFA Week Eight Game Review

Week Eight of the AIFA season kicked off Friday night with a battle of Northern Division leaders Canton and Reading in the birthplace of pro football Canton, Ohio. This fight was all one-sided however, with the Express dominating Canton 50-19. Reading rode the arm of Stetzer and the leg of kicker Eric Rockhold and Express defense intercepted three Canton passes to secure the victory.

Elsewhere, the Lakeland Thunderbolts upped their record to 4-1 with a 54-18 drubbing of the Florence (SC) Phantoms. Larry Thompson intercepted four passes and Lakeland QB Aso Pogi threw for six scores in the win. Florence drops to 1- 4.

The Mississippi Mudcats remained unbeaten (7-0) and sole leaders of the Southern Division with an 80-20 pasting of winless Baltimore (0-3). The Mudcats were overpowering offensively, with QB Tommy Jones accounting for seven touchdowns, six through the air.

Chasing Mississippi in the Southern Division, Tallahassee earned a great road win 55-34 over the Montgomery Bears. The Titans Ben Dougherty passed for six scores and rushed for another Touchdown. Titan Corner Michael Fisher had two picks as well to aid the Titan cause. Montgomery falls to 0-4.

The Carolina Speed won their third consecutive game, thawing the Erie Freeze 40-29 at home. The Speed defense has now held three straight opponents under the 40 point mark. Quarterback Aaron Leak saw his first action of the season and promptly threw four touchdowns to steer the Speed attack. Carolina improves to 4-2; Erie stands at 1-5.

In other action, Donte Newsome rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns to lead Huntington to a 47-22 win over Johnstown. The Heroes defense contributed to the victory with several timely plays. Both teams stand at 3-3.

Pittsburgh, Danville, and Gulf Coast each had byes and were idle.
