AIFA Expands to Ogden, Utah

October 22, 2008 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release

OGDEN, Utah (October 22, 2008) - The American Indoor Football Association has awarded an expansion franchise to Ogden, Utah. The team will compete in the 2009 season.

The city of Ogden is located approximately forty miles north of Salt Lake City and ten miles east of the Great Salt Lake. It is the home of Weber State University. Ogden is the closest major community to Promontory Summit, Utah, where the famed Golden Spike was driven joining the First Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.

The team will play its home games at the fittingly-named Golden Spike Arena, part of an event center complex that spans 150 acres. The arena seats approximately 6,000 fans for indoor football.

"Ogden is a great community and an excellent fit for the league," said AIFA co-founder John Morris. "There's a great fan base for football here, and the incredible business growth should help in developing corporate partnerships."

"We're really, really excited about joining the AIFA," said Golden Spike Event Center General Manager Jim Harvey. "Ogden is rich in history in all types of sports, so we're very pleased to be partnering with the AIFA."

"The Arena provides a very intimate atmosphere," Harvey told This Week in the AIFA. "The crowds will be right on top of the action, and every seat in the house is fantastic. The dimensions of the AIFA playing field really match up very well with what we have here."

"This is another step in our Western development," said AIFA co-founder Michael Mink. "Ogden is a great fit for the league, and we have announcements coming up that should help to build some excellent rivalries in this division."

An interview with Jim Harvey will be featured on the next edition of This Week in the AIFA, which will be distributed early next week.
