AIFA Announces Conference Playoff Scheduling

Published on July 10, 2008 under American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release

BALTIMORE, Maryland (July 10, 2008) - With the conclusion of the Divisional Playoffs, the AIFA announced scheduling for its upcoming Conference Playoffs. The games will feature a clash of top seeds from all four divisions.

In the Eastern Conference Playoff, the Reading Express will host the Florence Phantoms at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania on Saturday night, July 12th. Kickoff is set for 7:00PM EDT.

The Express advanced with a breathtaking 67-57 victory over the Erie Riverrats last week. Trailing 60-57, the Riverrats had advanced to the Reading 14 yard line with seconds remaining. But defensive back Trent Jones picked off a pass and ran it back for the decisive Express touchdown.

By comparison, the Florence Phantoms scored a decisive victory over the Huntington Heroes, 55-9. The Phantoms have won eight straight games, since a heartbreaking 40-39 loss at Mississippi. The Express won the only regular season between the two teams, 66-30 in Reading on April 19th.

The Western Conference Final will match the top seeds of the South and West Divisions of the AIFA. The Wyoming Cavalry will host the Mississippi Mudcats on Friday, July 18th, at the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30PM MDT. The Mudcats pulled out a 52-50 victory over the Columbus Lions, while the Cavalry defeated the Arizona Adrenaline 51-26.

The date for this game was selected, in part, to accommodate flight scheduling. Due to the distances involved, the AIFA is paying the airfare costs for this game.

"Obviously we were very concerned about these travel costs," said AIFA co-founder John Morris on This Week in the AIFA. "It's a huge expense expense for the league. But if we can take the pressure off of those teams from the South and the West, that's what we decided to do."

The AIFA will provide additional coverage of both the Division and Conference Playoffs through its upcoming edition of This Week in the AIFA. The weekly radio program will be available Thursday evening (July 10th) for download through two web sites, www.aifaprofootball.com and www.oursportscentral.com.
