From Calder to Stanley

Ryan Carter scored the game-winning goal with 4:24 to play and Stephen Gionta recorded a goal and an assist as New Jersey took a 3-2 series lead in the NHL's Eastern Conference Finals with a 5-3 win over the N.Y. Rangers last night... Carter notched 16-20-36 in 76 games as a rookie with the AHL's Portland Pirates in 2006-07 before helping Anaheim win the Stanley Cup that spring... Gionta, the third-year captain of the AHL's Albany Devils, tallied 6-10-16 in 56 games for Albany this season but now has 3-3-6 in 17 playoff contests with New Jersey... Brandon Prust, who tallied at last 10 goals and 200 PIM in each of his three AHL seasons with Omaha (2005-07) and Quad City (2007-08), scored his first professional playoff goal for the Rangers.

May 24, 1991 "" Michel Picard's goal six minutes into the third period stands up as the game-winner as Springfield defeats Rochester, 5-3, to capture its second straight Calder Cup championship.

May 24, 1985 "" The Sherbrooke Canadiens, led by 19-year-old goaltender Patrick Roy, win the Calder Cup with a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Skipjacks.
